Pryce winner seals comeback as Playwell United come from behind to beat Oakfield FC

Playwell United won 2-1 at home against Oakfield FC in a pre-season friendly on Sunday, coming from behind to take the win in front of a small but vocal crowd at Playwell Stadium. Goals from Ben Cavanagh and Danny Pryce turned the match around after the lads found themselves a goal down inside ten minutes.
Oakfield FC ahead early
It was Oakfield FC who made the brighter start. An own goal on eight minutes gave the visitors the lead, and Playwell United had to respond quickly.
Cavanagh levels, Pryce wins it
They did just that. Two minutes later, Ben Cavanagh headed home with the finish going through the keeper's legs, with the assist coming from Luke Sherwood, to bring the lads level at 1-1.
Playwell United then took the lead on 27 minutes. Danny Pryce met a Chris Maddox assist with a half-volley that found the far post and put the hosts 2-1 up. From there, the lads held on to see the match out and take the win.
There was one yellow card for Playwell United in the second half, but it did not affect the outcome.
Luke Sherwood, who provided the assist for the equaliser, was named Player of the Match.
Manager Shaun Bennet was pleased with how the afternoon went. "Going behind early wasn't ideal, but the lads showed real character to come back and win it," he said. "Proud of every one of them today."
Thornley Athletic away next
Next up, Playwell United travel to Thornley Athletic at Thornley FC Ground on Sunday, 6 September 2026, with kick-off at 2:00 PM. If you can make the trip, it would be great to see some familiar faces on the road after a result like that.
