Calloway named Player of the Match as Playwell United draw 1‑1 with Birchwood Park FC

Playwell United drew 1-1 at home with Birchwood Park FC in the Premier Division on Tuesday afternoon at Playwell Stadium, Huddersfield. Luke Sherwood put the hosts ahead inside four minutes, and although Birchwood Park levelled from the penalty spot early in the second half, the lads kept going and came away with a point.

Sherwood opened the scoring with a near-post first-time finish in the fourth minute, assisted by Tom Calloway. It was a bright start that gave Playwell United something to build on, and the lead held through to the break.

Birchwood Park FC drew level on 53 minutes through a penalty, making it 1-1. With the score back level, manager Shaun Bennet made a change on 66 minutes, bringing Ben Cavanagh on in midfield for Calloway to add pace in behind.

Tom Calloway was named Player of the Match. The defender had been involved from the off, picking up the assist for Sherwood's opener before making way for Cavanagh.

Luke Sherwood was also picked out as one of the manager's standouts.

Bennet was pleased with how the lads set the tone in the opening stages. "Getting our noses in front early was important," he said. "Ben came on and gave us something different, and I thought there were good parts to the performance overall. A point on the board."
