Ashworth brace turns it around as Playwell United win 2‑1 at home

Playwell United came from behind to win 2-1 at home against Millbrook Town in the Premier Division on Friday afternoon, with Dean Ashworth scoring both goals to settle a match that tested the lads from the third minute onwards.
The afternoon derby started with an early setback when Jamie Telford went off injured inside three minutes. Liam Granger came on in midfield in his place and, by the manager's own account, helped the side find their footing in the middle of the park.
Millbrook Town made the most of the disruption and took the lead on 16 minutes. Going behind so early was a real test, but the lads kept working and were level before half-time. On 32 minutes, Ashworth met a pass from Luke Sherwood and drove a long-range effort into the top right-hand corner to make it 1-1.

Tom Calloway came on in defence for Danny Pryce on 60 minutes, and the change helped steady things at the back. Two minutes later, Ashworth put Playwell United 2-1 up with a close-range finish, assisted by Ethan Pullen. That goal proved to be the winner.
Ryan Alderton came on in defence for Marcus Brennan on 80 minutes and added fresh legs when the side needed them most. Millbrook Town pushed for a leveller and won a late penalty in stoppage time, but it struck the crossbar and the 2-1 scoreline held.
Each side picked up a yellow card during the match, Playwell United's in the first half and Millbrook Town's in the second.
Dean Ashworth was named Player of the Match. The striker scored twice, but the award reflected more than the goals: he tracked back to help the defence throughout and kept talking to his teammates all afternoon.
Ethan Pullen and Luke Sherwood were picked out as standouts by the manager. It was also good to see Jordan Raikes back in the squad after injury, and Chris Maddox made his debut in midfield in front of a crowd of more than 200.
Manager Shaun Bennet was pleased with how the group responded after going behind. "Going a goal down early, especially losing a player to injury before that, could have knocked us sideways," he said. "But the lads believed in themselves, Dean took his chances brilliantly, and the boys who came off the bench gave us exactly what we needed. Really proud of them today."
